Glitter Girls - On Ice!

Fall is undeniably here, and there is no better way to spend it than to make plans for a winter getaway to the centre of the world for ice climbing. In this vein we have put together a one-week retreat in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, based out of my former home town of Canmore, Alberta.

Sharpen your picks, adjust your crampons, and get ready for the real world of ice climbing. The Canadian Rockies is home to hundreds of waterfall ice routes, from single-pitch ice and mixed to long, sustained multi-pitch climbs. No matter your skill level, there is something for everyone in this frozen playground of the North.

The event runs from February 5th through 12th, 2010. It kicks off on Friday night with the Canmore Ice Climbing Festival, which is a fun-filled weekend of climbing clinics, slide shows, and parties. You can sign up for their clinics, including women’s ice climbing, at www.knucklebasher.com. We recommend that you do this as soon as you have made your decision as these clinics are limited and will fill quickly.

When the festival is over the real fun begins: four days to create your own dream adventure on ice, where you can pair up with other women in the group or hire a guide and explore some of the classic climbs of the area. You can choose from among such world-renown climbs as The Weeping Wall, Polar Circus, or Murchison Falls. You can test your skills on hard mixed and ice routes in Haffner Creek, or take a long approach in to one of our more remote waterfall ice climbs.

Whatever you decide, this is your week to bask in the wind-burned glow each evening as you lower yourself into the hot tub, partake of finely crafted adult beverages, and refuel your body with the dinner experience of your choice. We will be staying in the heart of Canmore in luxurious condos within a short driving distance to grocery stores, restaurants, and wine boutiques.

The cost of the program is $1050 and includes accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, and logistical support.
